Gasoline and oil for the snow blower

Snow on a small home site is much faster done with the use of special snow removal equipment. Its presence greatly facilitates the life of the owners in the winter. All snow blowers can be divided into three types - electric, diesel and gasoline. Gasoline and oil for a snow blower with a gasoline engine are very important components. Below will be described how to choose oil and gasoline, as well as how to lubricate the gearbox and engine.

Two-stroke and four-stroke engines

Internal combustion engines are divided into two types:

  • push pull;
  • four-stroke.

One stroke is the movement of the piston up or down. Two rotations are required for one revolution of the shaft.Engines in which one cycle of a shaft occurs during a working cycle are called two-stroke. Models with two turns - four-stroke. The differences of these engines are not only in design, but also in some other indicators. In particular, there is a difference in the way of lubrication.

 Snowthrower

In a two-stroke engine lubrication is carried out using a mixture, which is obtained by combining in the ratio of 1:25 or 1:50 oil and gasoline. The mixture circulates in the system and lubricates all the necessary nodes. After its ignition, the oil is eliminated in the form of combustion products. There are two ways to get a mixture. In the first case, this is done directly by the operator, that is, the ready-made version is poured. In the second technique does everything herself. In this case, the engine is equipped with a special tank for oil, from which, using a pump, the oil in a strictly specified amount enters the nozzle, where mixing is carried out.

 Two stroke engine

In four-stroke engines the mixture is not needed. Oil and fuel flow into the system separately. In this case, the engine has a special lubrication system, which includes a pump, filters, valve and line for supplying oil.

 Four stroke engine

Due to the fact that oil burns in two-stroke engines, but not in 4-stroke engines, the requirements for oils for both systems are different. In the first case, it should give as few products as possible during combustion; in the second, it should maintain its characteristics for a long time.

Engine lubricant requirements

Buying motor oil for a snowthrower requires some knowledge. First of all, it is necessary to take into account the conditions in which the snowthrower works - cold. Given the fact that snow removal equipment must operate at low temperatures, the oil must meet certain requirements.

  1. Energy saving - its consumption at heating directly depends on this property.
  2. Increased lubrication. For high-quality protection against wear, the lubricant must have a certain viscosity, which will ensure rapid penetration into the grooves between the parts of the mechanism.
  3. Life time. Often, changing the engine oil is not interesting to anyone, so this criterion should also be considered when choosing.
  4. Versatility. There are oils that are suitable for both diesel and gasoline engines.

An important point when choosing a lubricant is its compatibility with the engine. As a rule, such information is on the package. In this case, for diesel and gasoline models, different oils are used.

Types of oils and their features

Oils are divided into three types:

  • synthetic;
  • semi-synthetic;
  • mineral.

Mineral oils - This is a product of distillation of oil. Due to the fact that they contain sulfur, these oils increase the oxidative properties of the metal. Therefore, in the final composition of sulfur should be no more than 1 percent. To improve the useful qualities are added all sorts of additives. The cost of such oils is the lowest.

 Mineral oil

Synthetic oils are obtained by synthesizing various substances, initially have protective properties, are distinguished by lower consumption and resistance to extreme loads and temperatures. Due to costly production, the output is a high price tag. However, the quality of these oils is much higher.

Semi-synthetic - intermediate, which is obtained by mixing mineral and synthetic oils in a ratio of 70 to 30. They have better characteristics and properties than mineral ones, but are inferior to synthetics. Accordingly, the price tag is average.

 Semi-synthetic oil

The table below shows the recommended types of lubricants for different engines, as well as their characteristics and cost.

Engine oil change

When servicing a snowplow, it is important to know not only how to choose the right lubricant, but also how to change it.Changing the oil in the snow blower has very strict rules. If the equipment is new, then before starting work, you should check the presence of oil. If it is, then it is necessary to fill in oil in a snowplow for the first time strictly 5 hours after starting work. The second time it needs to be done after 25 hours, and then continue as needed (that is, when it ends).

Replacement is carried out in the following order.

  1. The equipment is installed horizontally on a flat floor.
  2. The snow blower needs to be started for 5-10 minutes to heat up the existing oil. So it is easier to merge.
  3. In a muffled engine, the drain cap is unscrewed.
  4. It is necessary to drain all the liquid in a specially prepared container.
  5. The drain plug is plugged again, and the cap and dipstick are removed from the neck.
  6. Fresh oil is poured.
  7. Cover and probe returned to the place.
  8. After all the actions have been completed, you need to start the device for a few minutes, and then in the off state check the level.

Gearbox lubricant

In order for the snow blower to always work without problems, it is required to carry out an oil change in the gearbox.The reducer is an intermediate link between the rotating mechanism of the engine and the screw.

Important! The replacement procedure is carried out every 50 hours of operation of the device. In addition, it is a necessary procedure at the end and beginning of the season.

Gearboxes are divided into two types: serviced and unattended. The first option involves the ability to parse for cleaning and replacing lubricants. The second option does not require any maintenance, but serves much less, and if it breaks, it simply changes to a new one.

 Gearbox

Lubricant for the snow blower gearbox can be applied in two ways.

  1. Oil is poured through a special hole with a syringe.
  2. The gearbox is completely disassembled. In this case, it is possible to carry out not only lubrication, but also cleaning of internal parts.

In order to disassemble the gearbox, you need to do a number of simple actions:

  • you need to unhook the belt guard and the auger drive cable;
  • special bolts are unscrewed behind the bell to open the snow;
  • drive belt auger removed from the pulley;
  • unscrew the bolts that secure the drive shaft;
  • after that the screw and impeller are pulled out;
  • the screw to the shaft is attached with shear bolts, they need to be unscrewed;
  • The gearbox can be disassembled into two parts - to do this, it is necessary to unscrew all six bolts and, carefully tapping with the hammer on the body, divide.

Disassembled gear needed clean with a clean cloth and gasoline - it helps to eliminate dirt. After that, the surface must be lubricated with nail polish remover to degrease. After that, the whole mechanism is re-assembled and refilled.

 Gearbox lubrication

The oil for the gearbox should not be oxidized, degraded by temperature or precipitation, it should be slowly consumed and have a long evaporation time. In addition, it must contain special additives that will ensure the long service life of the gearbox and its components.

A lubricant that can be used for a worm gearbox can be purchased at any auto parts store. By and large, there are no specific brands, but the most popular among owners of vehicles is Ravenol. It is an affordable and high-quality lubricants. The cost per liter starts from 800 rubles.

Gasoline and fuel consumption

In order to understand what you need to choose a snow blower, it is important to know its fuel consumption. It is worth noting that there are no specific values. Consumption varies based on engine power, area and topography of the cultivated area, height and density of snow, and the presence of ice. In the ideal case, the engine capacity of 5.5 hp consumes about 1 liter per hour of work, models from 7 hp spend about 2.5 liters. On average, this value equates 1.5-2 liters. The standard tank capacity for gasoline is between 1.8 and 3 liters. Thus, the device can work for 1.5 - 2 hours on one refueling.

The best option for refueling snowthrower - 92 octane gasoline, in some cases 95 are used. Pouring gasoline into the snow blower follows from a clean tank. For a two-stroke engine, it is important to make the mixture correctly.

Tip! Before you pour gasoline, you need to shake it. In addition, you can not fill the container above the special mark.
