How to calculate the power of a heat gun

At the moment, a heat gun, or, as it is also called, a mobile air heater, is considered one of the most powerful units for heating. Most often they are used to heat the air in factory premises such as a shop or warehouse. Also, quite often, these devices are used in public places, bars, coffee shops and other similar establishments. But before you begin to select the appropriate equipment, you need to calculate the required power of the heat gun. This indicator determines the speed of the air flow, and hence the rate of temperature rise in the room. In the case when the power of the mobile heater was calculated correctly, it is possible to achieve optimal energy consumption and increased efficiency during operation. How to calculate this figure for the room?

 Heat gun

Calculation process

Heat guns cannot be called very complex equipment, it is quite possible to carry out all the necessary calculations on your own. To do this, you need to find out the volume of the room, determine the difference between the necessary and the existing heating, as well as choose the coefficient of heat loss in the room.

Remember that when calculating the volume of a room you need to take into account the area of the ceiling and its height.

Calculation of the net heat output

The formula by which you can calculate the desired power of a heat gun looks like this:

VхТхК = kkall / h

Used designations:

  1. V - room volume in which heating is carried out. It can be obtained by multiplying the width by the length and height of the room, measured in cubic meters, m³;
  2. T - the difference between the temperature of the outdoor air and the desired temperature in the room, measured in degrees Celsius, C °;
  3. K - numeric dispersion multiplier.

The latter indicator may have different values, depending on the characteristics of the room.

  1. K = 3, 0 - 4.0. This value is typical for wooden construction or structures of metal sheets with corrugation, without the use of heat insulating materials.
  2. K = 2.0 - 2.9. Building lightweight construction, single layer brick, windows and roofs of simplified construction. Actual for cases with the use of a small thermal insulation.
  3. K = 1.0 - 1.9. Building standard construction, double layer of masonry bricks, a small number of window openings, the basic scheme of the structure of the roof when using insulation of an average level.
  4. K = 0.6 - 0.9. Building improved design, brick walls with a double layer of insulating materials. A small number of window openings, equipped with a double frame. Heated floor with a thick base and a roof, built with high-quality insulating materials.

 Power calculation

Step by step calculation instructions

V - width 4 meters, length 12 meters, height 3 meters. The volume of the room for heating is 144 square meters, m³.

T - temperature of outside air minus five degrees, - 5 С °. The necessary heating of the room plus eighteen degrees, + 18 ° C. The temperature difference between the street and the room is 23 ° C. (-5 - 18 = -23 module of this number and is a necessary value for us)

K - this indicator depends on the class of construction and isolation of the room.

Given all this, the required heat output will take the following value:

144 x 23 x 4 = 13,248 kcal / h

Since 1.0 kW is equal to 860.0 kcal / h, then we divide the resulting number by 860 and get the figure in kW: 13284/860 = 15.4 kW. For transfer to other units use the following data:

  • 1.0 kcal = 3, 970 BTU;
  • 1.0 kW = 3412.0 btu;
  • 1.0 Btu = 0.2520 kcal / h.

Choosing a heat gun

After all the above calculations, you can do the selection of a heat gun. For an indicator of 15 kW, experts advise to choose one of the following models.

  1. Heat fan diesel type Master V70CED. The unit is not equipped with a gas exhaust system or Master Vas77e. These models are characterized by indirect heating and low power consumption.
  2. Air heater gas type Master Blp17M or BLP 33E. The thermostat TN 5 is integrated into the design. This device uses consumed gas as fuel.
  3. Heat gun electric type Master B15ERV. A distinctive feature of this heater is the need to consume electricity. This means that you have to ensure that it has a reliable electrical connection.
  4. Heat fan oil type Matter Wа 33. This device uses waste oil as fuel.

As mentioned earlier, the choice of heat gun is based on the characteristics of the room in which the device will be used. Do not ignore also such indicators as airing and energy class. Calculations of optimal power require carefulness and scrupulous counting, but this does not mean that you cannot produce them yourself. After spending some time, you can easily pick up the necessary equipment yourself.
