"Electronic skin" will help treat people

A team of scientists from the South Korean Institute of Science and Technology and Northwest American University has developed an "electronic skin".

The new invention is able to track heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory system indicators and other data indicating the nature of the functioning of the human body. Subsequently, the received information can be transferred to the smartphone via a wifi connection.

The system includes more than 50 different components interconnected by spirals (more than 200), protected from external exposure to silicone. Silicone makes the device almost invisible on human skin.

Installed three-dimensional sensors demonstrate a high degree of resistance to external influences - they can shrink, stretch, bend and still remain complete. All spirals and sensors represent a complex system, which, like a web, able to adapt to the external conditions and, even changing its original state, quickly recover without compromising quality characteristics.

 Electronic skin

For reference. In recent years, there is a lot of information about new developments in the creation and use of "electronic skin". Scientists from the USA, Japan, Israel, and Korea present updated experimental samples. One of the most well-known projects to the general public was Roboskin introduced in 2013. Specialists have created a coating that can determine the temperature and the level of smoothness of the applied objects. Such "tactile" sensitivity was subsequently used in robotics. However, this and many other projects have not yet found a useful embodiment in real life.

Scientists hope to introduce their technology in various areas of health. They rely on the fact that, thanks to the information received, it will be possible to diagnose many diseases much earlier, as well as to observe them later.

The new "electronic skin" continues to be tested and improved. As conceived by the inventors, it may be especially useful in areas and regions located far from medical and medical institutions. By transmitting information collected by the “skin” via the Internet, it will be possible to urgently make contact with a doctor and correctly diagnose the manifestation of symptoms of a disease in order to provide timely emergency assistance. Naturally, we are talking only about first aid, then full-time observation by specialists in any case will be a prerequisite.
