Displays for the new Samsung TVs will produce LG

Despite the competition in the market, the two South Korean electronic corporations - LG and Samsung - are ready to cooperate in 2017. This is reported by analysts of the largest research company IHS Markit. The subject of the transaction is the delivery of more than 700 thousand LCD screens that will be installed on Samsung TVs.

Why LG

Strictly speaking, the manufacturer of these LCD screens will be LG Display - a subsidiary of the company. It turns out that Samsung previously collaborated with Sharp (Japan), but in the latter there were global changes. It was acquired by the Taiwanese concern Hon Hai Precision, working under a contract. In this regard, Sharp production facilities were reassessed, and a decision was made to start production and promote its own brand in the market. Samsung was forced to look for a new supplier of displays - and it turned out to be the company LG Display.

Delivery volumes

According to some data, during 2016 the volume of products manufactured by Sharp for Samsung amounted to almost 5 million TV panels. Against the background of the total amount of Samsung TVs produced - about 50 million per year - this figure is not so impressive, but still amounts to 10%. Will cooperation with LG be as fruitful? Time will tell: the first deliveries of the displays are scheduled for the second half of 2017.
