Australian experts attract drones to explore the ocean

A group of Australian researchers from CSIRO announced the launch of a project that allows the use of drones to explore the ocean depths..

This was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the American startup Saildrone, which will provide specialists with unmanned researchers. In total, the Australian government will receive three units that can be used for 5 years. Under study will get the depths of the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans.

 Drones in the ocean

The force of the wind drives the drones, the electronics are set to work with solar energy. This autonomous mode of operation allows the devices to be in the open ocean for a whole year, without the need for human intervention in the control process.

Specialists intend to install identification systems on the drone, allowing to set the direction via satellite, as well as the technology to prevent collisions with other objects in the open ocean.

 Drones and scientists

The task of drones is to analyze the state of water through the system of built-in sensors, measure saturation with carbon, and evaluate the biological component. The advantages of drones lies in the possibility of their penetration into remote places and staying there for a long time without human intervention. Previously, it was practically impossible to study part of the ocean’s territories, since the finding of researchers on them was extremely dangerous.
