From smart technology to smart cities: Toronto creates an experimental district

Sidewalk Labs has presented a plan to create a "smart" city in one of the Canadian regions of Toronto.

As conceived by the head of the company, Daniel Doctoroff, the idea of ​​the project is to create a specific limited area where you can test various innovative technologies related to the work of all city services without exception. This also applies to the creation of environmentally friendly energy supply systems, the introduction of cost-saving building technologies, and the use of unmanned vehicles.

The implementation of the project, which has already received the name Quayside, is designed for several years. The creators hope to involve other companies, start-ups, as well as scientific and technical centers. State support from the Canadian authorities, who are certainly interested in the development and prosperity of their territories, is also expected.

The cost of the initial investment will be 50 million.dollars, this money will be used to upgrade a small area in the coastal region of Toronto. In the future, if everything goes according to plan, the area will be developed area in 325 hectares.

Many companies have already shown interest in the project. In particular, Google intends to transfer its headquarters to the new district.
