Helsinki city authorities continue to expand unmanned transport network

The authorities of the Finnish city of Helsinki announced the launch of the first unmanned bus. He will be cruising on a new long city route, first under test drive conditions. After successful verification, the car will start carrying passengers. The start of the route is scheduled for June of the current year.

The initiators of experiments on the launch of unmanned vehicles in the Finnish capital were specialists from the Metropolia University of Technology. Back in April, they launched a robotic bus in one of the districts of the capital. The route of the car is short, on the way it makes only three stops. Anyone can make a test drive by car and leave your review. Transportation is carried out on weekdays from 10 to 19 hours.

Experiments on the introduction of unmanned buses into the transport network began in 2016. The first vehicles on the road were French manufacturers EasyMile. They moved around Hernesaari. After some time, the cars moved to Espoo, Tampere, Hämeenlinna, as well as to the capital’s airport. Since autumn, the city authorities intend to test the bus in other areas.

Helsinki, along with London, Buenos Aires and Los Angeles, is participating in the Bloomberg Aspen Initiativ project, whose task is to incorporate drones into the city’s passenger transport schemes.
