Students of Don University have become the authors of the perfect prosthetic technique

Pupils of Don University became the authors of an unusual invention - a model of a brush capable of ensuring the process of adaptation of a specific person to the hand as soon as possible.

One of the authors of the novelty, Denis Hashev, noted that in standard conditions, development companies of prostheses spend up to two weeks to create a new instance. At the same time, there are optimized mechanical devices and sophisticated electronic circuits in the manufacturers' arsenal.

 Artificial brush

The new system makes it possible to reduce the waiting time of the patient several times, because the creation of a prosthesis will take no more than three days. This segment includes the restructuring of the template for a person, and the assembly process itself. The new prosthesis is very functional, each of its fingers is equipped with an autonomous control system, and the brush is capable of both holding objects of various shapes and gesticulating.

Another author of the idea, Yulia Mikhaylina, noted that in the process of working on the project, students studied in detail the characteristics of the human hand, fixed the places of the folds of the phalanxes of the fingers, the shape of the hand. In this case, the so-called "experimental" hands were used, that is, the hands of ordinary people under the age of 25 years. As a result, the average values were found, which formed the basis of the new prosthesis.

The basis of bending fingers laid wire rope mechanism. The cables pass through the channels through the fingers and are attached to their tips on the one hand and to the servo pulley on the other. Engines located in the wrist and forearm area, supply a constant current and provide brush inclinations.

Associate Professor of the Department of Robotics Alesya Lysenko praised the work done by students. He confirmed that the developed system makes it possible to very quickly create a 3D model of a future prosthesis and use it when assembling an individual copy. The technology can now be introduced into production, in parallel, working on its improvement in individual parameters.
