New silent robot eel will help in the study of the deep sea

American experts have created a unique robot - transparent sea eel, which has an almost silent way of movement. It is expected that the robot will assist scientists in studying the life of underwater depths.

At present, almost all developed similar devices when moving in water emit quite strong sound vibrations. This scares the marine life and significantly complicates the research process. A new invention can solve this problem.

The prototype of the new apparatus was leptocephalus - the larvae of fish of the order Ellipsoid. Their characteristics were taken as the basis for creating an eel robot.

The length of the robot is about 0.3 meters, the device copes with the work in salt water. Its movement is carried out not at the expense of the standard motor, but with the help of artificial muscles filled with water. Electricity flows through the wires connecting the device with the central control unit on the surface. In this case, the positively charged particles enter the muscle chambers, and the negatively charged particles enter the surrounding aquatic environment. This ensures free movement at a speed of 2 mm per second.

 Robot job

The robot successfully passed the test in an aquarium. Currently, scientists are working to improve its characteristics, allowing to increase the degree of reliability and significantly improve the structure.
