Developed a robot capable of operating patients.

The invention belongs to representatives of the Johns Hopkins University. In this case, it is not about the imitation of a surgeon in human form, but about a miniature device that fits into a fist.

Information about this invention first appeared in the medical journal Science Translational Medicine, the robot was named Smart Tissue (literally, "smart fabric"). The authors note the high surgical abilities of the future e-doctor and skills that even experienced doctors can envy.

The device is placed inside the patient (it is necessary to "eat" it), without making a single incision on the skin. A robot surgeon is able to operate on a patient qualitatively and quickly. Naturally, we are still talking only about typical manipulations, which, in fact, are extremely rare when carrying out real surgical interventions. Most often, doctors need to take into account many different factors that can affect the outcome of the operation in each case,the specifics of the patient's body. And some decisions are made spontaneously in the course of the operation.

For reference. In the laboratory tests Smart Tissue participated pigs. The program of connecting several sections of the rectum was entered into the robot. This type of manipulation is required for removal of tumors, treatment of tissue necrosis and some other operations. The device coped well with the task, not leaving behind a single scar. At this stage, the participation of a person in the procedure was nevertheless required - the doctor kept the thread for stitching, it is subsequently planned that the robot will cope with the work completely independently.

The use in medicine of operating mini-robots will allow not only to move to a qualitatively new level of surgery, involving major interventions without cuts and scars, but also to solve the problem of a lack of qualified medical personnel. Sapersialists estimate that in 2030 the need for personnel will be 40 million people, in fact, they will be two times less.
