Drones - the new guards of the beaches of Australia

Employees of the Australian University in Sydney made a proposal to use drones to protect the beaches.

Such drones are equipped with an artificial intelligence system and optics, which allow to recognize the approach of sharks from a sufficiently large distance. According to the researchers, drones are able to cope with the security function of a person much more efficiently due to the fact that they can not take for a predator something else - a shadow, an extraneous object and so on. Thanks to the provision of the system classifying dangerous animals, the device will be able to accurately and timely predict the appearance of a shark on the horizon and protect people on the beach.

Reference. The drone is a small-sized unmanned aerial vehicle that can function both autonomously and in conjunction with other devices through interaction via the GPS system. Initially, drones were created exclusively for military purposes in order to obtain the necessary intelligence information; at present, the scope of their use has expanded significantly.Small drones are used when conducting search operations, to monitor the weather, extinguishing fires, video filming, and cargo delivery.

According to Dr. Nabin Sharma, the project manager, the human eye is able to identify predators in only one of three cases. The technique in these cases will be more accurate. Scientists do not set themselves the task of completely replacing rescuers with drones, they are only trying to engage the machines in the process, thus facilitating the work of a person and increasing its effectiveness.
