Criteria for selecting a silent fan for your home

Silent fan in the bathroom is designed for forced air circulation in the room. Ventilation is important for any room, especially for a bathroom, where an increased level of humidity creates favorable conditions for mold development and various fungi. The device has a simple design, and fan manufacturers offer consumers both quiet, low-noise models, and virtually silent versions of increased comfort.

What is a silent fan for the bathroom?

A device for ventilation is not a fundamental novelty on the market. Fans for the house appeared many years ago, but only in recent years they have acquired a presentable appearance and wide functionality.

There are three types of models.

  1. Channel - is installed directly into the air vent. This type is the quietest fan for the bathroom or kitchen, due to the nature of the installation.
  2. Axial - the most common type of fan for the bathroom, living room, kitchen. Electrical appliances provide exhaust and forced circulation of air masses. The design is familiar and simple: the fan is equipped with a conventional cooler and is installed at the exit of the air vent.
  3. Radial - industrial-class devices, are widely used for commercial purposes for ventilation of large areas.

 Silent fans

A quiet fan produces minimal noise - no more than 26 dB. Silent work is the result of a successful and well-thought-out design:

  • reliable and durable noise-absorbing bearings;
  • low air resistance is achieved due to the streamlined air intake grille;
  • noise absorbing elements effectively reduce the level of vibration.

Channel is the best fan for the bathroom, it is noiseless and practically does not protrude above the wall level.. Part of the sound absorbs the air vent. But this does not mean that the model with an axial design will be less comfortable to use: the difference between 25 dB and 28 dB can hardly be called very noticeable.

What functions does the check valve

A good fan for the house should provide high-quality and effective forced ventilation. A check valve blocks the flow of air from the vent into the room. There are several valve modifications:

  • passive valve opens when the impeller is working, under the influence of air movement, after shutdown the valve is closed with a sash;
  • automatic valve opens and closes manually or using an electric control unit;
  • self-closing actuates a special spring.

Not every model is equipped with a check valve that blocks the movement of air into the room.

For high-quality air circulation, this constructive solution is a priority: humid air will leave the room, freeing up space for the air flow.

 Fan with check valve

Which modification to stop the choice is up to the user. Passive valves are very simple, therefore, the least prone to breakage. Electric ones are convenient and comfortable, but various malfunctions are not excluded, although this happens quite rarely.

Variety of modifications

Fans for the bathroom differ in design and exterior performance, but this is not the only difference.

  1. Electrical appliances have such technical parameter as power. And the most powerful fan rarely consumes more than 20 watts, which characterizes the device as very economical.
  2. Performance or air exchange, the value is measured in m³. The average is considered to be from 75 to 100 m³ / h.
  3. Noise level up to 26 dB is considered excellent, these are the quietest, almost silent fans. A value above 35 dB indicates a noticeable noise level, the device operation will create a little discomfort.

Despite the simplicity of the design, even the fans have their own functionality:

  • sensor that determines the level of humidity;
  • motion sensor (presence) in the room;
  • programmable on / off timer.

When choosing, the user must proceed from the appointment of the room itself, for example, a humidity sensor will be useful for the bathroom, and a fan with a timer and presence sensor can be installed in the kitchen.

Selection rules

Fans choose by vent diametermost of the dimensions of the ventilation ducts are standard: 100, 120, 150 mm. To find out exactly what size of fan will fit, it is enough to measure the diameter of the channel, and in the case of a house under construction, it is better to refer to the drawings.

Calculating optimal performance carried out according to different formulas, it all depends on the purpose of the room. The most common formula is:

L = Vn

L - fan capacity in m³; V is the volume of the room; n is the value of air flow rate (multiplicity) set by the SNiP (kitchen with electric stove - 60 m³, kitchen with gas stove - 90 m³; bathroom and toilet - 25 m³).

When 1 tenant has less than 20 m², the calculation is carried out according to the formula:

L = Ak

Coefficient k - fixed, SNiP sets the value of 3 m³; And - the room squaring measured in m ², L - size of productivity. Thus, a fan for a bathroom of 10 m² should disperse a minimum of 30 m³.

For rooms with high traffic or offices where a large number of people work, the calculations are different. Performance is calculated based on the amount of air required per person.For residential premises with natural ventilation, the value is 30 m³ / h, for administrative premises - 40 m³ / h. If there is no ventilation in the room, the figures will be higher: 60 m³ / h for any type of room.

Exterior performance of different models may vary, manufacturers offer models of different colors and shapes. There are simple appliances, devices for the bathroom or kitchen of the middle price segment (Ballu, Electrolux) or premium class fans - the best of them are made by the Italian company Migliore.

Alternative ventilation options

If there are no ventilation holes in the room and they are blocked, the only solution would be to purchase an ordinary table or floor fan. Particularly relevant issue for kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

The modern level of production allows you to create convenient and comfortable equipment, even the most budget versions are quieter than the outdated models of the past years. A quiet fan of an average price segment will be distinguished by a good balancing of the engine and the impeller of the correct form. Maximum comfort will provide models with remote control.

 Silent floor fan

The best fans are made by well-known companies specializing in the manufacture of climate or small household appliances. When choosing a floor model, you should pay attention to weight - light models are less stable.

The noise level should not create discomfort. Buying a device in the store, you can test and check how the selected device functions during a short period of time.

All-metal floor fans, for example, Stadler Form Q Fan Q-011/12/14, are considered one of the best models, but they are distinguished by a rather high price. Among the usual models can be identified Scarlett SC-1176, as well as a fan with a remote control VITEK VT-1909 CH.

As shown by tests and deep medical research, fresh air and good ventilation have a positive effect on human health. The constant movement of air masses excludes the development of various bacteria and improves the general condition of a person.
